Platelets

Platelets play a vital role in controlling bleeding and healing wounds. These tiny cell fragments circulate in the blood and help form clots whenever an injury occurs. At Lions Blood Center, we understand the importance of platelets for patients undergoing treatments for cancer, blood disorders, or surgeries. Every platelet donation is a lifeline for those who depend on timely transfusions to survive.

Unlike other blood components, platelets have a very short shelf life — only 5 to 7 days. This makes regular donation extremely important to ensure continuous availability for hospitals and emergency cases. Lions Blood Center encourages donors to come forward frequently to maintain a stable supply. Your single platelet donation can help save the lives of multiple patients fighting leukemia, bone marrow diseases, or severe bleeding conditions.

At Lions Blood Center, platelets are collected using apheresis technology, which separates platelets from your blood while returning the remaining components safely back to you. After collection, platelets are stored at 20°C–24°C with continuous gentle agitation to keep them active and viable. Our facilities are equipped with modern platelet incubators and agitators to maintain optimal quality and safety at all times.

Your platelet donation can bring hope and healing to patients who rely on these critical cells every day. The Lions Blood Center ensures that every donation is processed with precision and care to reach those in need quickly. Together, we can make sure that no patient suffers because of a shortage of platelets — one donation at a time.
